The first 365 days of glaciers.today
A year ago, we installed two cameras on the Diavolezza. Our goal was to document the effects of climate change on glaciers and share these images live with a wider audience.
But so much more has happened! SAR mountain rescuers now often use the images because the high resolution helps them plan their rescue operations better than before.
But we've experienced even more amazing things: Nature has revealed aspects I couldn't have imagined in my wildest dreams. The cameras have captured everything – solar storms, night skies, and lights we've rarely seen before.
We've weathered the storms, and the technology works perfectly – the 'proof of concept' is complete! Now we can take it a step further and explore new areas. We're completely 'solar-powered'.
The cameras reliably take photos every half hour; all we have to do is select and learn from what nature shows us.
As the initiator of Glaciers.today, I want to think bigger, beyond the current limits. Why not in the Himalayan region?
In our first year, we reached over 60 million people, and now it's time to plan the next step.
In our first year, we've seen nature in ways we never imagined, and our cameras have become a valuable tool for science and safety. Jürg Kaufmann
